What does “dual study program” mean? What is the time model behind it?

A dual study program is a course of study at a university with firmly integrated practical phases at an employer. The Transport and Logistics Management course at Provadis University is characterized by a special time model that enables theory and practice to be closely interlinked. Each semester is divided into different learning phases:

Attendance phase

You will attend 3.5 weeks per semester of classroom lectures at the Provadis University campus in Frankfurt am Main-Höchst.

Synchronous learning phase:

You take part in virtual lectures on two afternoons during the week.

Asynchrone Phase:

You will also work on the learning materials provided by Provadis University completely independently.

During the synchronous and asynchronous learning phase, you will work in parallel at the headquarters of our authority in Cologne.

Here you will pass through various departments, e.g.

  • Department V (Transport Economics)
  • Department F (funding programs)
  • Department K (Control Services) – it may also be possible to work in our control services here
  • Department G (Policy)
  • Department Z (Central Services)
  • Staff Office/Press Office

Once you have successfully submitted your application online via our electronic application management system and your formal suitability has been determined, you will be invited to take an online cognitive performance test. You will be given a specific time window in which you have to complete the tasks in the online test. The tasks include thinking, logic and numerical tasks. We also get an idea of your knowledge of the German language (spelling, grammar and expressiveness) and your general education.

If you successfully pass the online cognitive performance test, you will be invited to a selection interview at our head office in Cologne. Here we will ask you general questions about BALM and your personality. Don't worry - we primarily want to get to know you personally in this interview and won‘t ask you about your specialist knowledge!

If we then select you for a dual study program at BALM, you will have to pass a recruitment test at the university. This will be conducted as part of an assessment center day at the university in Frankfurt. If you also successfully complete this day, Provadis University will conclude a study contract with you and we - BALM - will conclude a corresponding employment contract with you.

What happens after that?

We are looking for students who feel comfortable with us for a long time and who have therefore dealt intensively with our authority and our tasks, but of course also with the expected course content. Information on this can be found in the job advertisement, but also on our homepage and the homepage of Provadis University.

“Last but not least, the students of today are our colleagues of tomorrow, so we pay particular attention to whether someone fits into the BALM team!”

The course usually lasts 3 years. Once you have successfully completed your studies, we will offer you a follow-up job so that you can remain part of BALM as a clerk.

If you decline the offer of continued employment or leave BALM within 5 years of completing your studies, you will be obliged to repay at least part of your tuition fees. The amount of the repayment obligation is calculated individually for each case.
