A distance-based toll for heavy trucks was introduced in Germany on January 1, 2005.
Initially, the toll applied to trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 12 metric tons or more, on approximately 12,800 kilometers of federal motorways and 42 kilometers of federal trunk roads.
• From August 1, 2012 and July 1, 2015: An additional approximately 1,100 kilometers of highway-like federal trunk roads are added in each case.
• From October 1, 2015: Vehicles and vehicle combinations with a gross vehicle weight of at least 7.5 tons are subject to tolls.
• As of July 1, 2018: With the extension of the toll to all federal trunk roads, the scope of the toll network now totals 52,000 km.
Since the start of the toll, the responsible Federal Office for Freight Transport has begun setting up an information system. All the key figures required for controlling and monitoring the toll are recorded centrally here.
The Toll data Tables evaluate data on the mileage and journeys of the so-called toll vehicles according to various criteria. The statistics are published in a monthly and annual publication sequence. They each contain a comparison with the previous period. The presentation of the results begins for the first time with January 2008.
What should be taken into account when comparing the statistics with the previous year's figures?
• the scope of the network subject to tolling
• the permissible total weights of the vehicles subject to tolls
You will find a detailed description of the data basis in the Methodological Notes on Toll Data Tables (English). You will also find further explanations of the tables presented.
